New York-Top athletes, coaches and parents of competitive athletes are invited to a training seminar on sport psychology, sports hypnosis, motivation and how to use their dreams to perform to their fullest potential.
This three hour seminar will be held in New York City on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 9 a.m.

The program will be conducted by Jay P. Granat, Ph.D., a psychotherapist and founder of StayInTheZone.com, who has been counseling athletes for more than 20 years. Granat has been featured in Golf Digest, ESPN Magazine, ESPN Radio, The Golf Channel and The Newark Star Ledger. Granat has also written and lectured extensively on sports, sport psychology and self-help.

Dr. Granat received his graduate training at The University of Michigan. His undergraduate training was completed at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Three pick up artists (PUA’s), all of whom belong to a real-life underground society of men, declare they can turn any socially stunted geek into a Don Juan in one night. They proceed to demonstrate on beautiful, but unwitting women, who have no idea they are surrounded by hidden surveillance cameras. By personally taking him into the dating field – a bar typically – they show for the first time in reality television, how a pick up really goes down within in the first three minutes. Think of it as the movie “Hitch”, but in real life.
Within each half hour episode, thematic lessons educate both audience and student, in a classroom setting by employing such seemingly unrelated sciences as hypnosis, sociology, sales, and of course, seduction. Since this a comedic reality program, each class has the overall feel of a skit, relying on such aids as silly props, cartoon graphics, and macho rhetoric (i.e. “any man can get into her pants but only one man can own her mind”). After being schooled, the student is then taken “in the field” to sink or swim.
As the audience eaves drops on the student’s cold approaches in a bar or on the street, they learn about proper (or improper) body language, getting under a girl’s “bitch shield” and how to smoothly escalate to the score, which is a number close or a kiss close. The best comedy comes from women’s varied reactions to the creative and hysterical things the guys come up with on the fly, not to mention whether they succeed or go down in flames. In this case, truth is better than fiction. Meanwhile, graphical commentary highlights funny or instructional moments as they happen. For example, during flirty conversation thought-bubbles appear to denote subtext, malicious or romantic. This is the meat of the program in which the PUAs sometimes stop the action and even use “madden” style drawing to show mistakes, or brilliance.
After leaving the battlefield, the 3 masters offer the student a final analysis of his performance, based on his improvements and what he still needs to work on. As an ending or even credit window, the PUA masters might take letters and not just answer questions, but show examples on video. Men will watch to “score chics” and to empathize with the triumph and failures of the student. Women will watch out of voyeuristic curiosity to learn what men think and to see a show that promises to definitively answer the age-old question: What do women want?

When the National Guild of Hypnotists meets in Marlborough, MA this August 10, 11 and 12, many of those in attendance will be earning required credits toward becoming a certified consulting hypnotist. Others at the convention will be seeking advanced certifications to add to their professional credentials. Hypnotism is an accepted and recognized treatment option regularly utilized by many health care workers, counselors and other mental health professionals. Hypnosis provides a valuable tool for enhancing an individual’s ability to deal with pain or stress, or to assist in diminishing undesirable behavior patterns. As the use of hypnotism increases, so does the demand for those who are trained to provide it.
The NGH Convention and Educational Conference will conduct 280 seminars and workshops during their three-day convention event. Combined, the coursework equals more than 400 hours of learning, instruction and interaction time. Each person who attends the NGH Convention uses a Personal Learning Goals Assessment Form to help him or her plan a customized workshop schedule and maximize his experience at the conference. All of the seminars and workshops offered during the NGH Convention and Educational Conference count toward NGH Continuing Education requirements.
This year, the National Guild of Hypnotists, in conjunction with PeachTree Professional Education, Inc., has added a special track for awarding Continuing Education Credit (CE/CNE) to counselors, nurses and workers in certain mental health fields. PeachTree, one of the nation’s oldest and largest providers of Continuing Education credits for professionals in the field of mental health, will provide NAADAC, NBCC and CA CNE approved credits for select NGH courses. The NGH Convention is open to the public for individuals with a sincere interest in learning more about hypnosis and career opportunities as a certified consulting hypnotist in the many professions that utilize the techniques of hypnotism.
