ABC’s Good Morning America Interviews Dr. Jay Granat on Impact of Cheating in Sports on Young Athletes
ABC’s Good Morning America Interviews Dr. Jay Granat on Impact of Cheating in Sports on Young Athletes
New York, NY (PRWEB) September 18, 2007
Jay P. Granat, Ph.D., a psychotherapist who counsels athletes, coaches and parents of young athletes and founder of http://www.stayinthezone.com , commented on the impact that cheating in sports has on America’s youth on ABC’s Good Morning America.
Dr. Granat, the author of How To Get Into The Zone And Stay In The Zone With Sport Psychology And Self-Hypnosis, believes that cheating like the recent incident involving the New England Patriots and Bill Belichick is bad for sports, bad for kids, bad for parents and bad for coaches.”
“Once stars break the rules, others think they can do it too.”
According to Granat, “Like it or not, sports figures are role models and they have an impact on the behaviors, attitudes and values of others.”
In addition, according to Dr. Granat, “Sports do not exist in a vacuum. There are incidents of cheating on Wall Street, in politics as well as in sports.”
“When the rewards are high, some people are apt to break the rules.”
“Fortunately, there are many fine, honest and reputable coaches who create a positive environment for our children,” says Dr. Granat, who has his offices in River Edge, NJ, but counsels athletes from around the world.
Granat would have liked Bill Belichick to have been a bit more apologetic in his recent press conference. This would have set a good example for people involved in serious athletics.

Four Sports Psychology Programs Help Baseball Players End Hitting Slumps During Spring Training
Four Sports Psychology Programs Help Baseball Players End Hitting Slumps During Spring Training
River Edge, NJ (PRWEB) March 6, 2008
Hitting a baseball is one of the most difficult tasks in all of sports and getting into hitting slump can be quite frustrating for players, parents and coaches.
If you can equip hitters with good mental and physical skills during Spring training, you can help them to prevent themselves from getting stuck in a slump that lasts a long time and can ruin a season and a chance at a pro career or a scholarship.
Jay P. Granat, Ph.D., Psychotherapist and Founder of http://www.StayInTheZone.com gets calls every week from players, parents and coaches who are concerned about a hitting slump.
“My kid is a great hitter, but he has lost his confidence at the plate.”
“He was hitting the cover off the ball, but he got nervous when the scouts were watching him.”
“The coaches have a ‘if you don’t hit, you sit’ policy. This seems to unsettle my kid.”
“Ever since I was hit by a pitch, I can’t get comfortable in the batter box.”
A great hitter needs to be relaxed, focused, confident and optimistic when he steps up to the plate. In addition, he needs to know how to think smart when he steps into the batter’s box.
Dr. Granat, who has been featured in The New York Times, Good Morning America, The British Broadcasting Company, The Canadian Broadcasting Company, The International Tribune, The Associated Press, Tennis Magazine and Executive Golfer Magazine was named one of the country’s Top Ten Mental Gurus by Golf Digest. Bedtime Stories for Young Athletes: New Sports Psychology Program Helps Children to Get into the Zone and Stay There
River Edge, NJ (PRWEB) September 11, 2008
A seven year old gymnast wants to make it to The Olympics. A twelve year old baseball player breaks out of a hitting slump and makes the travel team. An eleven year old tennis player wins a national event. A young golfer becomes a county champion. A soccer player, age 12, learns how to control his temper and stay calm, focused and confident under pressure.
Jay P. Granat, Ph.D., Psychotherapist and Founder of StayInTheZone.com has just released a new two volume CD program, Bed Time Stories For Young Athletes. These 23 short tales inspire, motivate and encourage young athletes to reach their potential and thoroughly enjoy their favorite sport. Each anecdote is just six minutes long, so this program is simple and efficient. It reaches kids when their imaginations are open to new ideas and to new ways of thinking, performing and competing.
Children can simply listen to one chapter a night and learn how to get into the zone and stay there.

Kids can also listen to their favorite chapters, prior to their games or during half time.
“Every day, I get contacted by parents who want to help their children to perform better at sports. When parents call me, they are usually frustrated as to how to help and motivate their kids. I teach the youngster, the parent and the coach how to empower the child so that they can perform in the zone more often,” says Granat.

17 Ways To Help Your Child Succeed At Sports
17 Ways To Help Your Child Succeed At Sports
River Edge, NJ (PRWEB) September 17, 2008
Doctor, author describes simple strategies to help parents, coaches and kids to enjoy sports and to perform to their fullest potential.
Most parents want their children to enjoy sports and to do as well as they can when they participate and when they compete.
“Every day, I get calls from parents who feel their children are not performing up to their potential. The kids are choking, frustrated and lacking in confidence and focus. Parents are very frustrated and so are the children, says Dr. Jay Granat.
According to Jay P. Granat, Ph.D., Psychotherapist, author of many books and programs on sports psychology and founder of http://www.StayInTheZone.com, there are a number of simple steps parents can take to help their kids enjoy sports and do well at sports.
Do what you can to make sure that your child is having a positive experience with his or her coaches and teammates. The wrong coach can turn a child off to a sport or to sports in general. Similarly, conflicts with other kids and peer pressure can make a sport quite unpleasant for a youngster. Parents need to help their children to resolve these interpersonal issues, and in some instances, they need to intervene or intercede on their child’s behalf.
Determine if your child seems better suited for team sports or for individual sports. Some kids love the camaraderie of team sports. Others like to compete on their own. And of course, some kids like both. One of my patients found that she loved tennis much more than softball because she enjoyed being out there on her own. This youngster is now a nationally ranked tennis player, because she has found her niche.
Be aware of burn out. If your child has lost some of his or her enthusiasm and you notice that he or she is performing, your youngster may be suffering from burn out. Talk to them and see if they need a break, a new challenge, a new kind of motivation or a different approach to their sport.
Lots of kids have difficulty managing busy schedules which include games, practice, travel, cross training, fitness training, speed training, family activities and school work. In many instances, the parents and their kids are spread quite thin and are quite overwhelmed due to over scheduling. Help your child and your family find a balance and make sure that they do not have too much on their young plates.
Is your child an elite athlete? Elite athletes often show mature talent and exceptional drive early on. “I counsel many athletes who fall into this category and they usually report loving their sport at an early age. They love practice and they usually can compete successfully with kids who are a few years older than they are,” says the founder of http://www.stayinthezone.com
While there are some children who can excel at several sports, most top athletes who are thinking about Division I colleges, The Olympics and being a professional, focus on one sport today. If your child is an elite athlete, you will discover that the age of specialization has now crept into sports. For instance, today, top baseball players don’t just get a baseball coach. They get a second base coach, a hitting coach and a pitching coach.
If your child wants to achieve a high level of success at sports, it is essential that the coach, the youngster and you have a good working relationship. I frequently intervene to help everyone to get on the same page. Once everyone is working as a team, the young athlete tends to feel better and perform better.
Expect to have different coaches and trainers during the course of your kid’s athletic career. This is normal. Be open to switching because different coaches teach different things and they call all have a positive impact on your youngster. If you and your child and the coach are in constant friction, something is wrong and it needs to fixed. A change just might be what the child needs to continue to improve and to grow in his or her sport.
Many young and talented athletes are clueless about the mental aspects of their sport. For example, I counseled a very talented tennis player who knew zero about the strategy of the game and less about her own psychological strengths and weaknesses. I was a bit shockedat how weak her mental skills were, since her mother owned and ran a successful tennis facility.
Similarly, I have seen hundreds of very talented young golfers who can hit the ball great on the range but who fall apart on the course.
Likewise, many baseball players with great swings can not hit in game conditions because they think very poorly about the game, the count and about themselves when they step up to the plate.
If you want your child to excel at sports they need to learn to understand the strategy as well as the internal mental aspects of their sport. It is wise to expose your child to mental toughness training early in their sporting careers.
Do whatever you can to teach your child to be relaxed, confident, focused and optimistic on and off the court. Show them how to manage the successes and the setbacks.
Introduce your child to mental toughness training, visualization and self-hypnosis at an early age. Every top athlete uses these techniques. Here is a link for a simple program which many young athletes use: http://www.stayinthezone.com/get_stay.htm
If your child is under age 12, have him or her listen to Bed TimeStories For Young Athletes. http://www.stayinthezone.com/children_sports.htm This program is designed to help young athletes to perform to their fullest potential.
If your child is a baseball player who is great in the cage, but who tends to choke in games, 101 Ways To Break Out Of A Hitting Slump can help to solve his or her problems at the plate. http://www.stayinthezone.com/baseball.htm
If your child plays golf and want a good introduction to the mental aspects of the game, there is a simple CD program to help with the psychological aspects of golf. http://stayinthezone.com/golf.htm

Hypnosis, NLP, Sports Psychology; Pittsburgh Steelers Prepare for Super Bowl XLIII
Hypnosis, NLP, Sports Psychology; Pittsburgh Steelers Prepare for Super Bowl XLIII
Pittsburgh PA (PRWEB) January 29, 2009
When the Pittsburgh Steelers square off against the Arizona Cardinals in Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIII, the players’ mental training and preparations will have received as much if not more attention than their physical conditioning and strength training. Today’s professional athletes understand that victories happen, not on the gridiron, the pitcher’s mound, or the eighteenth hole, but within the small, complex space of his or her own mindset. The Pittsburgh Steelers will be entering into Super Bowl XLIII with an expectation of success and a will to win. Dan Vitchoff, MS Ed., CHt., (President PA Hypnosis Center in Pittsburgh, PA) Board Certified and Licensed Hypnotherapist and Mental Training and Performance Coach, works with gold medal Olympians on Mental Training and Preparation. He explains the implications of mental preparedness for the Pittsburgh Steelers, “Whether you’re at the Olympics competing against every country in the world or in the Super Bowl, America’s most watched television broadcast, the winners are always the athletes who have made the best preparations and then make the fewest mental mistakes.”
Addressing the mental preparation needs of amateur and professional athletes has led Dan Vitchoff to develop ‘The 33 Method,’ which incorporates hypnosis, sports psychology, NLP, visualization and imagery to help athletes prepare for victory. 2008 Beijing Olympic Gold Medalists Walton Glenn Eller and Vincent Hancock credit much of their Olympic success to the work they did with Dan Vitchoff. Glenn Eller says that his Gold Medal is proof that Dan Vitchoff’s Methods and Techniques really do work.
From the Olympic stage to his office in Pittsburgh, PA Dan Vitchoff’s Methods and Techniques have a profound impact. Clients at Vitchoff’s Pittsburgh hypnosis center have effectively used ‘The 33 Method’ to help them lose weight, stop smoking, and reduce tension and anxiety. Dan Vitchoff’s Methods and Techniques have been proven equally successful whether they are used by athletes to win championships or by the average person trying to break habits and change life patterns.
Dan Vitchoff explains, “Here at our Pittsburgh hypnosis office, we offer the same success strategies that worked for our clients who are Olympic athletes, to our clients who come to see us seeking to lose weight, stop smoking, or simply improve their lives.”
Few top professional athletes today go into competition without taking advantage of the tools that sports psychology, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), visualization and imagery, and hypnosis offer to help them develop mental toughness, improve focus, and achieve a competitive edge. At the PA Hypnosis Center, Dan Vitchoff and Catherine Dolgos, a Certified Consulting Hypnotherapist and Fitness and Nutrition Specialist, work not only with competitive athletes, but with individuals who are facing their own opponents, including obesity, smoking, and other addictions.
Dona Weber says that losing weight with the help of the PA Hypnosis Center has freed her from a lifetime of roller coaster dieting. “Daniel Vitchoff going to China with a team competing in the Olympic Games; that was my eye opener. This is the last time I have to lose this weight because … (weight loss hypnosis) was a life changing experience.” Weber goes on to say that she has spent her entire life fighting this battle and now has lost over 45 pounds in less than 4 months.
Dan Vitchoff, a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan, isn’t making any predictions about the outcome of Super Bowl XLIII, but acknowledges that the team who shows up most mentally prepared to win will take home the victory.
About The 33 Method:
Dan Vitchoff, MS Ed., CHt. Board Certified and Licensed Hypnotherapist, is a Mental Training and Performance Coach for US Olympic Gold Medalists. The best Methods and Techniques in the world, that Vitchoff used to help these elite athletes prepare for the Olympics are the same methods and techniques used to help clients at the PA Hypnosis Center improve in the following areas: Weight Loss, Quit Smoking, Reduce Stress, Tension and Anxiety, Overcome Fears, Phobias and Insomnia, Improve Sports Performance, Improve Memory and Concentration, Boost Self Confidence, Public Speaking and Personal and Professional Coaching. learn more at pahypnosiscenter.com

NYC Medical Hypnotist Alerts NJ Nets Star Jason Kidd to the Many Benefits of Medical and Sports Hypnosis – Via Media
NYC Medical Hypnotist Alerts NJ Nets Star Jason Kidd to the Many Benefits of Medical and Sports Hypnosis – Via Media
New York (PRWEB) June 27, 2004
NYC Medical Hypnosis expert Michael Ellner is trying to alert NJ Nets star Jason Kidd to the many benefits of pre-surgery hypnosis before he has surgery next week. Ellner is convinced the hypnosis would reduce his post surgery pain and speed his recovery.
Kidd, who is considered to be the best active point guard in the game, was reduced to hobbling through the playoffs due to chronic inflammation and pain. According to Ellner, “Kidd could have been helped by Medical Hypnosis.” Now, Kidd is having surgery and Ellner wants him to know that pre-surgical hypnosis can help him recover faster and give him a shot at being ready for the pre-season. “There is a growing body of evidence that hypnosis can hasten healing and help Kidd get into his mental game,” Ellner explains.
Medical hypnosis is an evidence-based modality. It has demonstrated that it can help people feel better, heal faster and be more effective. In fact, in a recent Wall Street Journal article (Altered States: Hypnosis Goes Mainstream, Michael Waldholz, 10/7/2003), the author cites major hospitals using hypnosis to speed up recoveries from surgery. Still, few surgeons, sports doctors and athletes are aware of its many well-documented benefits.
Ellner, an honorary Fellow of the International Medical and Dental Hypnotherapy Association, is widely recognized as one of the country’s foremost medical hypnotists and hypnosis educators. In 2003, he was honored by the International Federation of Hypnosis with their Award for Excellence in Counseling and Therapy.
Ellner is sure that if Jason Kidd contacts him, he can educate him on the healing power of hypnosis, dispel any misgivings he might have about the process, and even work without trance – by helping him, instead, to attain an enhanced state of meditation. “He has everything to gain and nothing to lose,” says Ellner.
Ellner can speak extensively about the many benefits of Medical Hypnosis as well as its specific applications to Sports, and Jason Kidd. He is available for interview.
